=Racing-up=

K1 paddlers are not allowed to race-up in a higher class in a K1 unless requested by a National Coach.

For crew boats, K2/K4/C2/C4, at least 50% of the paddlers in a crew boat must be of the right class. When events are set upin the system, we also detail which Ability or Age classes are entitled to race-up in this event. This allows entries to be made for paddlers who match these racing-up classes.

Paddler of different classes, but in the same 'band' can't race-up in other classes in the same band.

=De-duplicate or approved Incomplete or Unconfirmed Entries=

If there are duplicate entries or if you need to accept Unconfirmed or Incomplete entries, use the following link syntax substituting the number at the end of the link with the number for the specific event

At present, the entry costs associated with Incomplete or Unconfirmed entries, which are subsequently accepted using this Admin feature, aren't currently being charged back to the respective clubs or squads.

If thatâ€™s the reason then thatâ€™s helps me understand it better, so the next question is â€“ if I get another name I can add that at the TL meeting otherwise, if I opt to scratch that entry on sat morning & then enter her is say girls D or something (for example) would the (some of the) money I paid for the Lightning entry carry over??

I think the best thing for you to do is try to get another partner for your Lightning paddler at the team leaders meeting. Failing that look at the K1 Lightning entries and see if there is a paddler who is not in a crew boat and talk to their team leader/coach.

We do not normally transfer payments to different events.

As Wendy has said, your best bet is to look through the other lightning paddlers to see if there's any available to make up the K2. As the event is on Sunday you can delay naming the 2nd paddler till after the Team Leaders meeting if you require more time to find another paddler. There are forms at the Secretaries Desk to either add the second name or deleted the entry. This must be done at least 60 minutes before the race will be run.

Once the entry has been deleted it cannot be reinstated in either in the same event or transferred to anther event.

As you can imagine, when running a regatta with approx 150 different events, we have to have a formal cut-off for entries to allow us to progress the timetabling, which is a complex beast. Entries submitted after the cut-off have the potential to really mess up the timetabling. We do, however, support late entries at the Team Leaders' meeting as we may well have spare lanes for particular events and/or people may scratch from existing events opening up spare lanes. 

The Team Leaders' meeting is held at 8am on the Saturday of each regatta.

Ability Classes and Age Classes

Ability Classes

Ben Gallacher was promoted from BAK to MAK when he was under 18 in June 2017. This hadn't been documented on his paddler record.

His original entry was in MAK but then we saw that he was U18 and checked his paddler details, as there was no promotion noted there, I switched him to BAK. For the May he will need to race in his ability class which is MAK.

Unfortunately, we will have to reinstate him as MAK moving his entries from BAK to MAK.

Please, note Item 7 about the Classification of Paddlers on page A8 of the Racing Handbook.

=Racing up=

K1 paddlers are not allowed to race up in a higher class in a K1 unless requested by a National Coach.

For crew boats, K2/K4/C2/C4, at least 50% of the paddlers in a crew boat must be of the right class. Any Ability or Age classes which are entitled to race up are added to the relevant Event details allowing entries to be made.

=Age Classes and Ability Classes=

A special condition applies if a paddler could theoretically enter both Ability Class and Age Class based events in a single Regatta. An example would be an Under 23 paddler wanting to race in both U23 events and Ability Classes.

For K1/C1 races, paddlers can only enter an Ability Class '''or an''' Age Class. They can't mix and match. Whatever the decision the K1/C1 entries have to be consistently either Age Classes or Ability Classes for the whole regatta. This restriction doesn't, however, apply to K2/K4's crew boats.

K1/C1 paddlers have to declare which class they intend to race though for each regatta or for each season. They can't race in both classes in any specific regatta as for timetabling reasons we can't address any potential conflicts that this could cause.

=Events comprising Age Classes and Ability Classes=

If an Event comprises both Ability Classes and Age Classes, e.g. Mens A & B + Mens U23, and a paddler is eligible to enter in both the Ability Classes and Age Class, for an entry to be recognised for that paddler they need to be entered both the Ability Class and Age Class.

=De-duplicate or approved Incomplete or Unconfirmed Entries=

If the paddler has previously raced Lightnings at National Regattas, amend the existing paddler record. Locate the paddler record using ''Paddler details | Registered club paddlers'' and then use the Edit function. Add the relevant new 500m times

Newly registered paddler records are reviewed and validated by the person responsible for Paddler Registration. As soon as these have been validated, the paddler will appear on the Entries screen for any Competitions accepting entries.

=When do I have to register a new paddler=

New paddlers can be registered at any time, although there is a Paddler Registration cut-off date for each regatta to allow time to resolve any issues with these registrations.

=If I want to transfer an existing paddler to my club, when does this have to be done by?=

Paddlers are only allow to race for one club during the racing year. Officially the date by which all transfers between clubs has to take place is the 1st March, which is the same each year. In practise, paddler transfers will be allowed until the entry deadline for the first National Regatta each year.

=How do I register an overseas paddler?=

If my club has overseas paddlers who are members of their own national body, but not British Canoeing, can they be registered under my club?

If your foreign paddlers want to race under your club then they have to be British Canoeing members. If these paddlers' stay is relatively temporary then as visitors they can race under their Bulgarian National Federation club colours but we will need proof of their current membership and written permission from their home National Federation to compete in the UK. If they race under their home club colours then we'd use the Non-UK club short code for them in the programme.

=After I register a new paddler, why isn't an Ability Class or Age Class shown against their record?=
